Brazil beats U.S. 3-2 in Pan American Cup – Women’s volleyball news
The U.S. women’s national volleyball team met with the top-ranked Brazilian squad on Tuesday, July 5th, in the final match of the round robin playoffs of the Pan American Cup that is currently being held in Juarez, Mexico. The match went on for
five long and excruciating sets but the U.S. team lost out to the Brazilian side by 2-3 with the final set scores showing:  28-30, 25-18, 25-19, 17-25 and 15-11.
The second ranked American squad put up a tough fight in the first set and was eventually able to win it. However, the Brazilians made an easy job of the second as well as the third sets. The Americans equalised the match as they won the fourth and brought
the match to a decisive fifth, which the Brazilians won to take home the win.
The start of the first set of the match saw Brazil take the lead and keep it for most part of the game. The first time that the Americans were able to come into a leading position was later in the set at 26-25. A late push saw them across the finish line
as they took the initial set at 30-28.
The second set started on the same note as the first set ended. Both teams played in an attacking fashion and the crowd saw five lead changes along with seven ties. However, Brazil was able to break free of the tie at 14-14 and go on a spectacular run that
led them all the way to a 25-18 victory. The third set of the match went on a similar note as the second with four lead changes and 11 ties but Brazil was able to go on a run again and bag the third set at 25-19.
Once the Americans had the advantage at 10-6 in the fourth set, they kept building on it to earn themselves a winning chance by taking the match to a fifth set. However, Brazil was able to take the lead at 5-1 and did not relent until they had the final
set of the game at 15-11.
Brazil has been able to end the pool play matches with dominance, securing five wins at the expense of no losses. This has enabled it to be at the top of Pool B and has given Brazil a bye into the semi-finals. The top team from Pool A is the Dominican Republic,
who will also be going into the semi-final round. The quarter-final round will begin on Thursday and the Americans will be facing Argentina in a battle to earn a ticket into the semis.
