Once they got going, there was no stopping the Brazilians in the third set as well as they were able to smother the Americans completely. The fourth set saw a bit of life from the Americans but they put in a half hearted effort compared to the strong performance
of the Brazilians that got them the match win at the following final set scores: 18-25, 25-17, 25-14 and 25-18.
The coach of the American team, John Speraw, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after the match had reached its close: “Brazil plays at a velocity not seen in the university level where most of these players
are. Our middle blockers did a good job and I am pleased with the way Kyle Caldwell is developing as a setter.”
On the other hand, coach Rubinho Leonaldo of the Brazilian team shared his sentiments in the following manner: “We made many errors in our attacks and counterattacks before the argument with the referees. Our game improved after the second set and we were
able to find the right balance.”
