Brazil defeats China 3-1 in a final round match of World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
The last match of the second day of the final round of the FIVB World Grand Prix was held between China and Brazil on Thursday, June 28, 2012. The host city of the final round of the tournament is Ningbo, China where the Ningbo Beilun Gymnasium staged the match. The hall was filled with a total of 6700 spectators most of whom had come out to cheer for the home team. However, it was Brazil that was able to secure itself a win by 3-1.
It took a total of an hour and 48 minutes for the Brazilians to defeats China at the following final set scores: 25-21, 21-25, 25-19 and 25-18.
The coach of the Brazilian squad Jose R. Guimaraes shared his happiness at the two match winning streak of his team in the final round by making the following statements, “I am very happy about the team. I feel my team played relaxed, we had good attacks and good performance. This is a good experience for us on court. How fluent the players play is very important for us, I hope to maintain that for the future.”
On the other hand, the Chinese coach Yu Juemin expressed himself in the following manner, “Today our receiving was not stable, and because one of our right wing-attackers was injured before the match, we had to rely on the left-side attacking.”
Two Brazilian players, Menezes Thaisa and Castro Sheilla, were able to get their hands on the top scorer of the match title by putting up 18 points each while the best scorer on the Chinese side was h*i Ruoqi with 13 points.
By the end of day two of the final round of the championship, Brazil found itself on the third position after earning four points while the Chinese were at the fourth position with three points.
The opening set of the game saw the Olympic Champions Brazil taking the lead at 8-3 and after two time out calls from the Chinese coach; the home team was able to level the frame at 12-12. However, Brazil did not let it affect their play and took the lead at 21-16. After that point, Brazil did not look back until they had bagged the first set at 25-21.
The Chinese took the lead in the second set at 10-6 which they were able to stretch till 15-10. Brazil was able to catch up at 23-21 but China secured the frame at 25-21. The Chinese were leading in the third set as well at 7-5 but Brazil got the advantage at the coming of the first technical time out at 8-7 and did not look back until they had the set at 25-19. Coming out strong in the fourth set, Brazil did not take much time to crush the home team and went on to grab themselves a win at 25-18.
