Brazil defeats China by 3-2 in a FIVB Women’s Volleyball match - Volleyball
The Brazilians had a match with the Chinese on November 11 in Sapporo, Japan, where some of the matches of the FIVB Women’s Volleyball tournament are being played. The match between China and Brazil took on thrilling tones as it went on for five long and
grueling sets. By the time that the match reached its close, Brazil found itself on the winning end of the game.
The first set of the match remained close throughout as both the teams struggled to gain dominance. However, it was the Brazilians that finally were able to make their mark by bagging the opening set of the game. The second set saw an impressive tug of war
take place between Brazil and China and the Chinese were able to equalize the match by securing the second set of the game.
The confidence generated by gaining a win in the second set got the Chinese to play well in the third set too and grab another set. The loss of two back to back sets did not sit well with the Brazilians and they were able to put on an impressive show to
grab hold of the fourth set. Both the teams struggled in the fifth set and after an exciting performance, the Brazilians were able to seal the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 25-23, 25-27, 21-25, 25-20 and 17-15.
The coach of the Brazilian team, Jose Roberto Guimaraes, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “The game was close throughout. We took the first set, the second and third they
won and had rhythm. In the fourth I brought out Sassá [Welissa Gonzaga], who played well in service reception, it really helped our spiking. Our service was not so good against China, but we aim to improve it tomorrow v Italy and we hope we can play our best.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Chinese team, Yu Juemin, shared his feelings by making the following statements: “I ’d like to congratulate the Brazilian team on their win. I think the team did really well in the whole match, we played better than against
Italy, especially our service.”
The player that was able to post the highest number of points in the entire match belonged to Brazil. Paula Pequeno became the top scorer after posting a total of 21 points for her team. Pequeno was helped by her teammate Fabiana who kept the pressure on
the Chinese by adding 19 points of her own. On the other hand, the player that was the most active on the Chinese front was Zhang Lei with 18 points.
