Brazil defeats Cuba by 3-0: Day 3 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship - Volleyball
Brazil took on Cuba on the third day of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship that is taking place in Lima, Peru. The Eduardo Dibos Coliseum saw three thrilling sets as Brazil dismantled the Cubans 3-0.
The first set of the match went in favour of the Brazilians as they were able to completely dominate their rivals. The Cubans managed to pull themselves up a bit in the second set of the game but the Brazilian team ended up taking the second set as well.
After a loss of the first two sets, the Cubans felt the need to shift the momentum in order to get themselves a winning chance in the game. However, the effort came in too late from the Cubans and the Brazilians bagged a win at the following final set scores:
25-13, 25-15 and 25-21.
The Brazilian captain, Priscila Heldes, made the following comments at the press conference that was held after the match ended: “It was a very important match. We could start the game in a good game. The service was very important.”
On the other hand, the Cuban coach Pupo Robinson, gave the following statement: “We achieved the goal that we wanted: our players could gain experience with great teams."
The Brazilian team got themselves the lead early on by scoring the first two points but the Cubans did not let them get too far. However, Brazil was successful in taking the lead again at 6-3. Despite the Cuban efforts, the Brazilian squad kept on racing
ahead at 14-7 and then 16-9. It was a short time after that the Brazilians bagged the opening set of the game at 25-13.
The Cubans did not let their spirits sink after having lost the first set by such a margin and started the second set matching the Brazilian’s intensity. However, the Cubans could not keep up the pace for long and the Brazilians seized the moment to move
up to 16-7. Brazil had the advantage later in the game at 20-9 and it was only a matter of time before the Brazilians finished off with 25-15.
Despite the fact that the Cubans kept the third set close throughout the game, they could not take the lead for long and the South Americans walked away winners at 25-21.
The Brazilian coach, Luizomar de Moura, expressed his feelingand said, “It’s going to be difficult to face Peru with 5,000 people against us. Winning the first place in this difficult pool is really important for us. Our goal is to get into the top four
teams of this championship.”
