Brazil defeats Serbia by 3-2 in FIVB Women’s World Cup match - Volleyball
The Brazilians took on the European champions, Serbia, in a match on November 9th in Toyama, Japan. The contest was part of the FIVB Women’s World Cup that is taking place in Japan currently. The Brazilians won 3-2 in Toyama at the Toyama City Gymnasium.
The match between the two sides went on for five long and gruelling sets at the end of which the Brazilians found themselves on the winning end of the game after an impressive performance that brought them up from a 0-2 deficit.
The first set of the match started off evenly but the Brazilians slackened near the end as the Serbians were able to quicken their pace and bag the opening set. The loss of the first set did not much affect the performance of the Brazilians as the second
frame followed the same pattern as its predecessor with the Serbians achieving another win. The loss of the first two sets was too much to take for the Brazilians and they were able to come back a rejuvenated team in the third set and took it by a significant
margin. The confidence generated at winning the third set got Brazil another win in the fourth set that took the game to a thrilling and decisive fifth which saw an impressive show from both sides but gave the match to the Brazilians at the following final
set scores: 21-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19 and 15-12.
The coach of the Brazilian team, Ze Roberto, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “Thank you, Zoran. It was a very difficult match from 0-2 to 3-2 today. You have a very good
team and very good players. Congratulations for your job. I think you didn’t play like this before, but now you are one of the strongest teams in the world. I’m proud of my team to have won this difficult match.”
On the other hand, the Serbian coach Zoran Terzic gave the following statements: “I’m really very, very satisfied with the result and how we played because my team fought for every ball from the start to the end of the match. I would like to congratulate
my team.”
The player that scored the most points in the entire match belonged to Brazil. Sheilla Castro remained the top scorer by scoring a total of 24 points overall. On the Serbian side the most active player was Ana Bjelica who kept the pressure on the Brazilians
by tallying a total of 19 points for her side.
The Brazilian side was also better in the blocking department by 14-7.
