Brazil defeats U.S.A by 3-1 during vollyball match: FIVB Men’s World Cup
The preliminary round of the FIVB Men’s World Cup saw the number one ranked Brazilian squad compete with the number fourth ranked Americans on November 21. Both teams were playing their second match of the tournament that is currently being staged in Japan,
where the FIVB Women’s World Cup recently reached its close. The Kagoshima crowd saw the Brazilians dominate the US by 3-1.
Both teams played skilfully and kept the spectators on the edge of their seats all through the four sets. After a thrilling match between the two, the Brazilians proved to be the better team as they were able to end up on the winning side. The first set
of the match started off almost level but as the game reached its middle stages, the Brazilians were able to take the lead and extend their advantage while leaving the Americans trailing far behind. Therefore, the opening set of the game went the way of the
Brazilians.
The second set did not do much to improve the spirit of the Americans as they again lost the lead in the middle and let the Brazilians take off to secure the second frame. The loss of the first two sets did not sit well with the Americans and they stepped
up their game in order to avoid a clean sweep. The U.S. came out strong in the third frame and were able to smother their opponents. However, the Brazilians repaid the favour by bagging the fourth set at the same points and sealing the deal on the match at
the following final set scores: 25-17, 25-18, 16-25 and 25-16.
The coach of the winning team, Bernardo Rezende, gave the following comments at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “First of all, it’s always tough when we play matches against the USA. This year we played five times;
this is number six. We learned a lot playing against them.”
On the other hand, the coach of the American squad, Alan Knipe, shared his views in the following manner: “First of all I’d like to say that this was a well played match by Brazil. This game was very much determined by service and reception. Brazil served
well, and caused problems in the first two sets. We got something going in third and in the beginning of the fourth set, but ultimately we needed to pass the ball better.”
The Brazilians were better than the Americans in many aspects of the game but particularly the attack and the defence of the Brazilians did a good job in maintaining the pressure on the American side that ultimately resulted in a match win.
