Brazil downs Tunisia by 3-1 in a Pool G of FIVB Volleyball Boys Youth World Championships
Brazil and Tunisia competed in a Pool G match of the FIVB Volleyball Boys Youth World Championships on August 24 in Almirante Brown, Argentina. The resulting competition took four sets to produce the Brazilian team as the winner.
The Tunisians did not give Brazil any trouble in the first set of the match as the Brazilians were able to speed up ahead and grab a win. However, the Tunisians retaliated by stepping up their performance in the second set and getting level with their rivals.
The Brazilians did not take defeat too well and outperformed the Tunisians in the third set. Despite the fact that Tunisia tried hard to turn the tables, Brazil prevailed in securing the fourth set and winning the match at the following final set scores: 25-15,
21-25, 25-12 and 25-21.
The coach of the Brazilian team, Percy Oncken, expressed himself at the press conference after the match in the following manner: "Congratulations to Tunisia for the way that they played today. We made several mistakes. We need to recover our self-confidence.”
On the other hand, the Tunisian coach Hichem Ben Romdhane shared his views in these statements: "We had many individual mistakes in the game. I just hope we can play better in future matches.”
The opening set started off with Tunisia leading at 3-0 but Brazil was able to reach the first technical time out with an advantage of 8-7 which they were able to extend till 16-11. Tunisia tried hard to overcome the difference but Brazil did not stop till
it had reached a set win at 25-15.
The Brazilians were leading the second set till the second technical time out at 16-15 but fell to making errors after coming back onto the courts. Tunisia took advantage of this lapse in performance of their rivals and got hold of the second set at 25-21.
The Brazilians started the third set in a strong fashion and got ahead of the Tunisians at 12-7. The second technical time out of the set reached with Brazil going strong at 16-10. It was only a matter of time before Brazil had earned themselves a win at
25-12.
The Tunisians tried to rally together to put up one last effort to get them back in the match but the Brazilians proved to be too strong a side to let go of the fourth set.
The player that was able to lead all scorers was the Brazilian Joao Ferreira, as he posted a total of 18 points while the Tunisian Elyes Garfi topped his team with 13 times.
With their recent win, the Brazilians have been able to improve their record to show three wins against one loss while the Tunisians have not been able to bag a single win yet.
