Brazil gearing up for Men’s Junior World Championship in their hometown
Brazilian men’s junior volleyball team is up for another challenge as the 2011 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship is going to take place in August.
The championship is scheduled to run from August 1-10 in Brazil. The cities of Rio de Janeiro and Campo Grande will set up the field for play, while Brazil will enter the tournament with the tag of hosts and defending champions. In the last edition of the
championship, Brazil launched its authority on the hosts in the final encounter and settled for the gold. It was the fourth title win for Brazil in the history of the event. The sub-continental country, India hosted the FIVB Junior World Championship in 2009.
This time around, Brazil will host the 2011 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship and it will have certain advantages. The home team will be equipped with the emotional support of local fans. The familiar playing conditions will help them to perform better
against the competitors from different parts of the world.
Nonetheless, they will be playing under double-pressure as they will enter the competition as titleholders and hosts as well. It puts a double responsibility on them.
In 2009, Brazilian squad paved its way to the final victory under the command of head coach Percy Oncken but he was replaced by his assistant De Carvalho in 2010 season. De Carvalho became the head coach of the Brazilian Junior team when the team captured
the SCV Men’s Junior Championship in Argentina.
The 2011 FIVB Junior World Championship will put the new coach’s abilities to a real test. Carvalho has the daunting task to lead his team to success. The coach is confident that his team will handle the situation. He expressed his views about the upcoming
event.
He stated, “This group carries a heavy pressure to defend a title and to play at home. To play at home is good because we’ll have our fans and families cheering for us, but on the other hand we have to make sure the boys stay focused during the competition.”
