Brazil going strong for another medal at World Junior Championship - Volleyball

The world’s best sixteen Under-20 women’s volleyball teams are fighting for superiority in Peru at the 2011 FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship which kicked off last Friday, July 22 and it is supposed to complete its run on this coming weekend, July 31.
This year, Brazil looks shaped up to claw its way to the final round and once again compete for the top position.
Brazil is currently the team with the most number of titles as they have captured 10 medals including 6 Gold, 3 Silver and one bronze medal in the previous editions of this competition.
Playing at the prelims of the 2011 FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship, Brazil remained unbeaten and topped the ranking in Pool B. In the second round of the tournament, they have been placed Pool F. Brazil was challenged by Beijing in the first match
of second round on Tuesday, July 26. The Gran Chimu competition hall in Peruvian city Trujillo hosted the match, where Brazil clinched success by posting 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, and 25-21) on board.
Lise Van Hecke, the captain girl of Belgium was named the top-scorer of the match. She registered 21 points. On the other hand, Brazilian Gabriela Souza played an instrumental part in her team win. She added 19 points through 52 attack attempts.
Post-match

After the completion of match, team captains and coaches of both team appeared at the official press conference.  Luizomar de Moura, the Head Coach of Brazilian Team disclosed the game plan that they avoided mistakes, in order to win the match. He said his
team successfully restrained Slovakian captain Lise Van Hecke, who was the biggest threat for them.
Julien van de Vyver, the mentor of Belgium was not happy about the loss. He was even more upset that the opponents won so easily. Nonetheless, he accepted the better status of Brazilian team as the side was equipped with experienced players.
Next up
Brazil is scheduled to take on Slovakia and China in the next two matches of the second round. The Brazilian Head Coach is pretty aware of the potential of both teams. He stated: “We are aware that China is a fast and strong team, but it’s not the only one,
Slovakia is our next opponent, we’ll first think on how defeat them and then we’ll think on how to defeat China, both of them will be a great challenge”
Likewise, the skipper of Brazil, Priscila Heldes, is concerned about the upcoming tough matches with Slovakia and China. She said they need to be focused for the next teams.
Belgium will also have two matches with China and Slovakia, respectively. The second round of the championship will finish on Thursday, July 28.
