Brazil overpower New Zealand in water polo contest: Day three – 2012 Men’s Pan Pacs, Melbourne
Brazil’s national team overpowered efforts New Zealand in their third match of the first round on day three of the 2012 Men’s Pan Pacs, on Tuesday, January 10, at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC).
After losing their first two matches of the tournament, Brazilian squad has shown some skills and potential as they move up on the overall rankings list. Unlike their previous two matches, where they lost dreadfully, the Brazilian team demonstrated their ruthless efforts and claimed victory with a significant lead of 16 goals. They took out the Kiwis with an incredible effort of 19-3 in the four-quarter game.
Both teams seemed very competitive in the first quarter of the game, where Brazil’s Jonas Crivella scored first goal of the match. His effort was trailed by New Zealand’s Jamie Cameron, who levelled the scores of first round by throwing the ball in Brazilian goal.
Nevertheless, the Brazilian team went full throttle in the second quarter, giving no chance to their opponents and scoring five goals. On the other hand, their opponent team got lucky enough to pass the ball in their territory just for once. With the overpowering efforts of Brazilian athletes, the score went from 1-1 to 6-2 after the second round.
After their astonishing efforts in the second round, the Brazilians were evidently strong and were expected to dominate the third round. Once again, they made no mistakes and stroke six goals against their challenger. In contrast, the New Zealanders failed to show any improvement on their scorecard and the score turned out to be 12-2 after the third round.
With their supremacy in the first three rounds of the game, the Brazilian squad looked even thirstier for goals in the fourth quarter. They proved their dominance over the ball and scored seven consecutive goals, one after another whereas New Zealand managed to score a single goal in the final round.
The Brazilian team looked happy with their remarkable first win of the tournament, which moved them onto sixth spot on the points table. In addition, the crowd acknowledged their wonderful efforts and the team seemed optimistic for their next match with Australia Barbarians.
