Brazil picks up fifth win in 2011 FIVB World Cup – Volleyball News

Playing against Argentina, the men’s national volleyball team of Brazil grabbed a straight-set win on Sunday, November 27. The two teams approached the Hamamatsu Arena in Japanese city Hamamatsu and contested their game skills in front of the international
audience. Brazilian players proved to be better and posted a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-21) victory over Argentina. By defeating Argentina, Brazil bagged its fifth victory in the tournament.
Brazil’s Leandro Vissotto Neves topped all the scorers with his 17 points. Equally active, Brazilian captain Gilberto Godoy Filho (Giba) supported the team with 12 points. On the other hand, none of the Argentinean players could go into double-figure score.
Ivan Castellani and Mariano Giustiniano were the top-scorers, who added seven points apiece.
Opening phase of the match was balanced as both teams put away points at regular intervals. Brazilian Vissotto offered good offense to the opponent, while Federico Pereyra of Argentina responded in the same tone. With the help of back to back attacks, Argentina
managed to take one point advantage at first technical timeout (8-7). However, Brazil’s Murilo and Giba counter-attacked and earned 18-15 lead. Argentina tied the score at 22-all but eventually Brazil sealed first-set win, 25-22.
Giba of Brazil and Argentina’s Giustiniano got into stride in the second set. The exchange of quick rallies created a great vibe in match. Argentina picked up lead at 8-6 and tried to put pressure on Brazil. Meanwhile, Vissotto offered solid defence and
dismissed many of Argentinean attack attempts. Brazil regained the control of operations and quickly achieved the set points, 25-20.
With two sets in hand, Brazilian team enjoyed good dominance over Argentina. The team in “sky blue and white” outfits tried to get out of trouble but suffered the loss of third set. Brazil secured set (25-21) and settled for match victory, 3-0.
Post-match
In the view of Brazilian Coach Bernardo Rezende, his team started out slow in the match. Players attained the real rhythm and form in the second set. He also added that Argentinean mistakes benefitted his side. However, he urged his players to stay focused
on the ball in the next match and emphasized them to play with right attitude of the game.
Likewise, the skipper of Brazilian team Gilberto Godoy Filho expressed concern about next match against Caribbean team from Cuba. He appreciated the effort of players in beating Argentina but at the same time pushed the team for better performance in the
next match.
Argentina coach Javier Weber said: “First I’d like to say congratulations to Brazil. We had a good game. Until the 18th point in each set we could compete, but after that their attack overwhelmed us. We also had a lot of young players in this match. “
Maximiliano Cavanna of Argentina further added: “Argentina played with an alternative team today with new two or three new players. In some moments of the match, we played equally with Brazil point by point.”
