Hi! Me and a groupd of friends are doing a research project for school.

Our project is on Brazil and we have to get a lot of facts on it like attractions, environment, economy and vegetation. I've never

been to Brazil or anywhere in South America so I don't really know much about the country except for what i read on the internet.

I would really appreciate your help if you would share facts or travel destinations in brazil, or what types of houses the people live in.

Any facts are appreciated! Thanks so much for your help!

  1. Portuguese is the official language. Real is the currency

Brazil is a Democratic Republic and the President is Luiz Inacio "Lula" da Silva a former blue collar worker, who also from lead the labour Party

    About 200.000.000 inhabitants.

Brazilia is the capital. Sao Paulo is the biggest and the most important city. Rio de Janeiro is the second one. Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Salvador e Recife are also economically important.

People are very friendly, open minded and inteligent.

Petrobras (Oil and Gas) Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (Iron ore)are two of the most important brazilian companies.

Brazil is the 12º greatest economic power.

Brazil is the land of Pele, Ayrton Senna, Carlos Gohns (CEO of Renault-Nissan) Gisele Bundchen, Fernando Meirelles (film maker City of God). Santos Dumont(who invented the plane).

    Rodrigo Santoro (actor "Lost)

It is a beautiful country. In fact it is more a "melting pot" than the States. You get all sorts of people in Brazil. The country spans a wide geographical area if you think about it, since it covers wide across the latitude. So up north of the country it is hot and humid, further to south it is template and in fact cold as you go nearer to the border with Argentina. And the south eastern cone of the country is most industrious and richest of the nation (RJ and SP). And so does the vegetation varry from north to south. You can find grapes and oranges (they make good wine too in Brazil and it is one of the world's largest of orange juice and pulp producer) in the south. While in the more tropical regions, you find exotic fruits and crops like passion, cocoa, cashew, coconut etc.

About culture, as I mentioned there is a bigger fusion of races I notice in Brazil. For example in Sao Paulo, I was surprised to see a huge community of Japanese, mostly of 3rd and 5th generation. Although the lingua franca is Portuguese, which is quite distinct that the Iberian Portuguese, in fact more pleasant to hear; the people are made up of different ethnicities that all call themselves Brazilians. And despite, being the only Portuguese-speaking country in Latin America, surrounded by Spanish speaking nations, Brazil maintains a colorful, authentic and vibrant culture and it is one of the 10th largest economy in the world. People in North America, the stereotype always think Brazilians speak only Spanish and that is not true!

If you look at Bahia, where a mix and unique Afro-Brazilian culture, it produces some of the best artists like Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil and Daniela Mercury. Not to mention Brazil produces some of world class soccer stars like Pele, Ronaldo etc. Not to mention world-class literary figure such as Jorge Amado (Gabriela, Cinnamon and Clove)

You find all kinds of industries in the world, the country is self-sustained in terms of food resources. If you only think Brazil has only snakes and Amazon river, you are wrong. Embraer is an emerging aviation company, rival to the Canadian Bombardier. Like most Latin American nations which were practising close economy, the country has now somehow learnt to nurture a creative and vibrant economy when it is opened to the world in early 90's.
