Brazil remains undefeated at the 2011 Women’s Handball Championship – Handball News
The 2011 World Women’s Handball Championship is being held in Brazil. The tournament began from December 2, 2011 and will continue until December 18, 2011. A total of twenty-four handball teams from all around the world are competing
in this championship. Their goal was to enter the finals and win the trophy.
From December 11, 2011, the tournament entered into the exciting knockout stage with the start of the round of sixteen. The round also concluded and now the competition has entered into the quarter final stage. Among the final
eight teams which are lucky enough to play the quarterfinals are the hosts, Brazil.
The Brazilian women’s national handball team have shown consistency ever since the tournament began. Placed in Group C of the competition, the Brazilians were grouped with France, Romania, Japan, Tunisia and Cuba. Brazil played
its first match of the tournament on December 2, 2011 against Cuba. The Brazilian team dominated the Cuban with huge victory. Brazil defeated Cuba 37-21.  
Their second match was against Japan, which they played on December 5, 2011. Japan could have closed in for a win, but the Brazilians maintained a lead and won the match 32-24. Alexandra Priscila do Nascimento scored seven goals
for Brazil. The Brazilian players kept on winning their matches and cruised ahead in the tournament. They played their third match on December 6, 2011 against France.
The French women’s national handball team was also in the hunt to derail the Brazilian side but in the end but it was the Brazilian team which ended with a win. The French team were defeated 22-26. Romania were the next team which
Brazil faced on December 8, 2011. Brazil again proved to be the dominant side when they defeated Romania 33-28. Brazil’s last group match was played on December 9, 2011 against Tunisia.
Women’s national handball team from Tunisia were the only team which came close in beating Brazil. With a difference of one goal, it was yet again the Brazilian side which won the match 34-33. Brazil remained undefeated in the
group matches and topped the Group C table with ten points and a goal difference of positive thirty-four.
In the knockout stages of round of sixteen, Brazil, the first team from Group D faced Cote d’Ivoir, the fourth team from Group D. Brazil yet again proved their worth to enter the finals as they defeated Cote d’Ivoire 35-22. Brazil
has now entered the quarter finals and would face Spain on December 14, 2011.
