Brazil secures second place in World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
The last day of the final round of the FIVB World Grand Prix saw a match being played between Brazil and Turkey on Sunday, July 1, 2012. The contest took place in the host city of Ningbo, China while the venue was the Ningbo Beilun Gymnasium which seated
4550 spectators who had come to watch the show that was closely contested by both the sides but ended in a 3-1 win for Brazil.
Brazil took a total of one hour and 49 minutes to seal the deal at the following final set scores: 25-21, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-15.
The Brazilian coach Jose R. Guimaraes, shared his views at the win by making the following comments, “This is a good result, but we have many ups and downs during the second and the beginning of third set. We have to improve our block and defence. The Grand
Prix is finished right now, we have a few weeks to start the Olympic, this is not too much time.”
On the other hand, the Turkish coach Marco Aurelio Motta gave the following statements after the loss of his team, “We played not good today, especially our reception...We didn't play our level today. I mean if we play our best, we can also lose, but the
problem is we didn't play a good match, we can do better.”
Despite the fact that her team lost the match, Neslihan Darnel of Turkey earned herself the honour of being the top scorer of the match by tallying a total of 20 points. On the other hand, Thaisa Menezes of Brazil became the top scorer on her team by contributing
19 points of her own.
Brazil came out strong in the first set of the match as they took the lead at 8-2. Turkey increased their pace but they were still lagging behind as Brazil stretched their advantage to 18-11 after which the Turkish coach called for a time out. Turkey was
able to close in the gap at 19-15 but Brazil propelled themselves forward to take the lead at 24-18 and bag the opening frame of the game at 25-21.
Turkey was leading in the second set by 8-7 at the coming of the first technical time out after which they were able to extend their advantage to 13-10 that increased further to 19-12 largely because of some Brazilian errors. After that point, Turkey did
not let go of their dominance and went on to secure the second set at 25-23.
The third set was tied at 12-12 but Brazil went ahead with a lead of 19-14. After that point, Brazil did not let go of the advantage and went on to seal the deal at 25-20.
Turkey lost heart in the fourth set of the game and did not play their best which led the Brazilians to grab an easy win at 25-15.
