Brazil stamps 3-0 win over Germany in the last preliminary match of the Olympics – Volleyball News
The boys around Brazilian Head Coach Bernardo Rezende exhibited a wonderful performance against Germany in the last match of preliminaries at the Olympics on Monday and claimed 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-19) victory.
Brazil scored fourth win in the Men’s Olympic Volleyball Tournament, whereas Germany lost third game. However, both teams qualified for the quarterfinals.
Brazil started out very strongly in the first set and influenced the opponents with an early onslaught of volleys. Nevertheless, Germany hit back and did not allow Brazil to go far. The exchange of long rallies added a great vibe in the competition. Both
teams jumped on every little opportunity to score points. Germans kept the score close, but suffered the loss of opening frame with only four points.
The second set of the match featured the point-to-point action. Brazil had the competitive advantage of winning the set-1, while Germany was raged up with the loss. In the meantime, the score soared up with close intervals and situation remained undecided
up till the ending moments. Eventually, Brazil proved it potential and won another set in row.
The loss of two sets dragged Germany under pressure and they could not perform up to the mark in third set. Brazil cruised past to third-set win and settled for match victory.
Germany dropped the decision, but it had the top-scorer of the match in the form of Captain Bjorn Andrae. The German skipper was credited for match-high 14 points. The second best scorer of the match also emerged from the German side. Jochen Schöps put up
a valiant effort for Germany and finished with 12 points.
On the other hand, Brazil was supported by Lucas Saatkamp with team-high 10 points.
Bernardo Rezende, the winning coach of Brazil, stated: “We are going to face a lot of difficulties but we reached the knockout round and we want to win. The spirit of my team is very good. We’ve got experience, athletes who have already been champions and
this will help us, giving us confidence for the rest of the competiton. Our group suffered some crises, but we managed to be strong. The idea is to create conciousness and we know how to do it.”
German mentor Vital Heynen said his team was out of luck and dropped the decision to Brazil.
Björn Andrae of Germany opined that too many unforced mistakes caused the loss for his team. Nonetheless, both the coach and captain of Team Germany expressed delight that they performed well in the last two matches and booked a slot in the quarterfinals.
Next up, Germany is scheduled to take on Bulgaria on Wednesday. Likewise, Brazilian team will be back in action against Argentina in the quarterfinal match.
