Brazil sweeps Argentina to stay undefeated in FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix - Volleyball
The Brazilian team made a clean sweep over Argentina in a Pool K match of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix on August 20th. The competition took place in Bangkok, Thailand. Not only was Brazil able to win the match in three back to back sets,
they did so by winning each set by a comfortable margin with little challenge being provided by the Argentineans.
The opening set saw Brazil charge off as soon as the whistle blew with their South American rivals trailing behind all the way through. The second set started with both Brazil and Argentina locked in a struggle to gain dominance but eventually Brazil was
able to move up ahead and bag the set. The loss of the first two sets of the game further de-motivated the Argentineans who seemed to be waiting for Brazil to end the match. Brazil pulled off a victory at the following final set scores: 25-12, 25-15 and 25-8.
The Brazilian coach, Jose Roberto Lages Guinmaraes, expressed himself by making these statements in the press conference after the match had reached its close: "I’m proud and glad for the win. As my captain said, we played and focused on the whole match.
We think about the final round, but we have to try our best in every match. We focused on each set, attempting to win point by point.”
On the other hand, the Argentinean coach, Horacio Bastit, shared his thoughts in this way: "Congratulations on Brazil’s victory. I don’t think we played well in this match. Actually, I wanted my girls to play well like we did in the previous match against
Thailand. However, we are playing the tournament’s best team. It’s a very difficult match. That’s what counts."
The Brazilians came out strong in the opening set and did not take long to assert themselves over Argentina. Before long, the Brazilians found themselves in a safe position at 21-10. It was only a matter of time after that before Brazil could bag a win at
25-12.
The initial stages of the second set were tight as both teams went in for the kill. However, as the game progressed, the Brazilians were able to emerge with the advantage. Once they had the lead, Brazil did not look back until they had won the set at 25-15.
The Argentineans could do nothing but wait for Brazil to take the third set as the Brazilians played it in a blitzkrieg fashion and stopped only when they had the final set at 25-8.
The recent win has extended the winning streak of Brazil in the tournament and they stand as the only team that has not yet lost a single match in the championship.
