Brazil sweeps Egypt in a FIVB World Cup match - Volleyball update
The first match for Brazil during the FIVB World Cup took place on November 20 against Egypt at Kagoshima, Japan. The match between the two sides did not take long to end as the Brazilians wound up on the winning side by winning three back to back sets.
The Brazilians not only won the match in a clean sweep, they did so without having much of a difficult time in doing so. The first set of the match saw both teams on level ground earlier but as the game reached its middle stages, the Brazilians were able
to take the lead and the Egyptians kept trailing behind all the way. The loss of the first set of the game did not do much to boost the morale of the Egyptians and their performance was seen to slacken in the second set while the Brazilians kept on going strong
with the momentum generated upon winning the first set. As a result, the second set of the match also went the way of the Brazilians after an easy win.
The Egyptians put up an admirable effort in the third set to give themselves a winning chance in the game and take the match to a fourth set but the Brazilians proved to be too strong to be toppled as they sealed the deal on the match at the following final
set scores: 25-19, 25-13 and 25-19.
The coach of the Brazilian side, Bernardo Rezende, expressed himself in the following words after the match had reached its close and the press conference was taking place: “First of all I’d like to congratulate my friend [coach Elshemerly Sherif] and Egypt.
They never gave up and that’s very important... I wish them best of luck to qualify for the Olympics.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Egyptian side, Elshemerly Sherif, shard his views in this manner: “First I’d like to congratulate my friend [Bernardo Rezende]. I hope Brazil can arrive at the final. About our team, I think this is the first match after
the African Championships. We just played two friendlies before coming here.”
Despite the fact that his team lost the match, the Egyptian player Ahmed Abdelhay was able to be the top scorer after registering a total of 14 points for his team. On the other hand, the leading player from the Brazilian end was Murilo Endres with 13 points.
