Brazil sweeps Iran on first day of round four: FIVB Men's World Cup - Volleyball
The Brazilian national men’s volleyball team played against the Iranian squad today, Decemebr 2, on the first day of the fourth round of the 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup. The championship is being hosted by Japan, which also staged the 2011 FIVB Women's World
Cup a short time ago. The match between Brazil and Iran was played in Tokyo, at Yoyogi National Gym where the Brazilians won by 3-0.
The world number one volleyball team did not take long to make the match come to its end as they were able to come out on the winning side of the game after having made a clean sweep over their opponents. The Iranians did not give them much competition in
any of the three sets that they lost, with only the first one showing some sparks from Iran as they started off strong but lost their steam in the final phases of the frame that gave the opening set away to the Brazilians. The loss of the first set showed
a decrease in the performance of the Iranians in the second one and they could not provide the Brazilians with the challenge for long and let the lead slip out of their hands. Once the Brazilians had the lead, they were able to secure another set win. Building
on the momentum generated by securing the first two sets of the game got the Brazilians going from the start of the third set whereas the Iranians only put in a half hearted effort that eventually resulted in a set win for Brazil. Therefore, the Brazilians
were able to seal the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 25-20, 25-18 and 25-16.
The Brazilian coach Bernardo Rezende commented on his team’s win in the following fashion: "Iran has had very impressive results in this tournament. They have been amazing. They have given energy to those watching them. We are trying to improve and learn
from each match. We have to win these next two matches. We studied their blocking and attacking. We knew they were good at blocking. We tried to keep the rhythm and move the ball and stay away from their strengths.”
