Brazil sweeps Thailand in a Pool F match of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix
A Pool F match of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix took place between Brazil and Thailand on the 12th August in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
What followed was a victory achieved by the Brazilians after making a clean sweep of their opponents.
The first set was dominated by the Brazilians with the Thai struggling to get into form. However, the loss of the first set prompted the Thai to rally together and step up their efforts in the second set but the Brazilian proved to be the better lot as they
secured another win.
After a two set deficit, the Thai could not challenge the Brazilians in the third set, who sealed the deal at the following final set scores: 25-16, 25-23 and 25-16.
The Brazilian coach Jose Roberto Lages Guimaraes expressed himself in the following manner at the end of the match, “I wish Thailand good luck. It was an important game for us because they are technical players.”
Whereas the Thai coach Radchatagriengkai Kiattipong stated himself in these words at the press conference after the match, “I would like to congratulate Brazil from my side and tell him my respect. They are a good team and with every point, we were very
happy. Also, I wish good luck.”
The start of the first set was competitive with both the teams locked together in an intense struggle. The Brazilians had the lead at 12-11 and were able to extend the advantage. Thailand tried to stop the Brazilians from getting away with the game but Brazil
remained successful in bagging the opening set at 25-16.
The second set started off with a couple of Thai errors that gave the lead away to the Brazilians. After that point, the match remained close all along as Thailand tried to overtake the Brazilians. The Thai were successful making the match reach a tie at
17-17 but Brazil did not let the match slip out of their hands and scrapped off another win at 25-23.
The loss of the first two sets dampened the spirits of the Thai as their performance experienced a downfall in the third set. Before the Thai could make any head way, the Brazilians took the lead early on and were able to extend their advantage. The Thai
tried to close in the gap and they became successful in coming close. Unfortunately, for the Thai team however, that was the winning chance they could give themselves as the Brazilians were able to win the third set easily at 25-16.
The Brazilian player who was able to tally the highest number of points for her team was Castro Sheilla as she registered 14 points while the Thai Chaisri Tapaphaipun topped her side after tallying eight points.
