Brazil to miss Giba and Murilo at first leg of 2012 FIVB World League – Volleyball news
The news has recently hit the block that two key players of Brazilian men’s national volleyball, Gilberto Godoy Filho and Murilo Endres, will not participate in the first week matches of the upcoming FIVB World League.
The 2012 FIVB World League is set take centre stage on Friday, May 18. A total of 16 teams are ready to contest their skills in front of the international audience. Brazil will open the tournament in Pool B alongside teams from Poland, Finland, and Canada.
The first leg of Pool B matches during the preliminary round-robin is supposed to be hosted by Canada. The other three teams will be required to travel to Canada, in order to take part in the competition.
Brazil is the top contender of the respective pool but the team will be playing without the top spikers Giba and Murilo, who are down with injuries. The pair will stay back, while rest of the team will head to Canada for first week matches.
Giba had a surgery in his left leg a few months back and is still waiting for full recovery. Likewise, Murilo’s right shoulder is not functioning properly. Hence, both players will sit back until they recover from the injuries. They will stay at the Brazilian
Volleyball Development Centre in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro, while the team will be gone to Toronto, Canada.
In the absence of Giba and Murilo, the Brazilian Coach Bernardo “Bernardinho” Rezende is likely to use the youngsters in the team. 20-year-old Lucarelli, 22-year-old Renan and Mauricio, who is 23 years old, are the top contenders to fill up for Giba and
Murilo.
Speaking of the replacement players, the head coach of Brazilian team stated, “They played very well in the Superliga and can add some news things to our side,” said Bernardinho. “We have very high expectations of them regarding the 2016 Olympics, but they
also have what it takes to fight for a place in the team right now. It has been very important for them to have the experience of practising with our group.”
The rest of the Brazilian roster will remain almost unchanged. Bruno and Ricardo will perform their duties as setter, while Leandro Vissotto, Theo, Wallace and Renan will serve as opposite. Middle-blockers Lucas, Sidao, Rodrigao and Eder, and wing-spikers
Dante, Joao Paulo Bravo, Mauricio, Lucarelli and Thiago Alves will also travel with the team. During the first week competition in Toronto, Sergio and Mario Junior will play as liberos in the Brazilian team.
