Brazil to play friendly Futsal match in Thailand – Futsal update
Brazil will be playing the second friendly tournament of Futsal matches of the year with the Thailand national team in Bangkok on the 7th of October. The tournament will be the part of the Thai king’s 84th birthday celebrations.
Earlier, the Brazilian team went to Iran to play friendly matches with the Iranian Futsal national team. Brazil is currently the world Futsal champion, whereas Iran is the Asian champion. Brazil won the tournament but the battle for the win was worth the
wait. Brazil has become the most successful team in the Futsal championship until now.
Brazil has won the FIFA Futsal championship four times out of the six times it has been played. Since the Futsal Championship started back in 1989, Brazil has dominated the world stage and were the sports first champions. Spain has won the championship twice
and the second best team in the ranking, Iran, is currently the fourth seed in the FIFA Futsal team ranking 2011.
The president of the Football association of Thailand, Worawi Makudi, who is also a member of the FIFA executive committee, discussed the friendly matches with Brazilian Football president Ricardo Teixeira. Teixeira promised Worawi that he will send their
team to Thailand for the friendly fixture. The decision was made during the FIFA annual meeting at Zurich, Switzerland.
Worawi said “This is good news for Thai fans. It will also be a good opportunity for Thai players to play against world-class players”.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (BFC) is also planning to send its National Futsal, five-a-side, to compete in a special fixture in Thailand on 14 to 17 June. The basic aim of these tournaments will be to promote the game across the country.
Worawi has also requested the Spanish team to play in the event against the Brazilian team in Thailand. These matches will play a key role in promoting the FIFA Futsal Championship 2012 in the country.
Worawi has also invited legendary footballers like Franz Beckenbauer and Pele to join the teams during the event. The first event will also be staged as the beginning of a countdown for the Futsal Championship in 2012. The seventh championship is going to
be held in the winter of next year, with 24 teams competing instead of 20 teams. The teams will compete in qualifying rounds in their regional football confederation qualifying events. The teams who win their rounds will compete in the final championship next
year.
The Thailand Futsal team will also be competing with Palestinian Futsal team for the qualifying tie for the Olympics 2012 on Wednesday 9th March. The Thailand Futsal team defeated the Palestine team in the first leg in Bangkok. The president of
Football association of Thailand requested that the second leg of the round be played at a neutral ground but his request was turned down by the officials.
The Thailand Futsal Team will play a match in Jordan, before going to West Bank by bus for the event.
