Brazil unveils preliminary squad for upcoming FIVB World League – Volleyball news
In the wake of 2012 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World League, the head coach of Brazilian team Bernardo “Bernardinho” Rezende recently announced the preliminary squad that would defend the Brazilian legacy in the upcoming competition.
The roster of the men’s national team of Brazil has not seen any big changes. The team will be playing with similar set of players, who competed at the 2011 Men’s FIVB World Cup in Japan and claimed bronze-ware.
Initially, a total of 25 players have been finalised for the 2012 FIVB World League. The names of the players were shortlisted long before but the Brazilian Volleyball Federation (CBV) advised to name the official team following the completion of Men's Superliga,
which concluded this past Sunday.
Brazilian top gun Giba will serve as the skipper of the team, while the coach will be hoping to build momentum for the upcoming Olympic challenge in London. Brazil qualified for the Olympic Games trough the 2011 FIVB World Cup. The grid of 25 players that
has been shortlisted includes all the players who led Brazil to third place finish at the World Cup.
The FIVB Volleyball World League 2012 is scheduled to take place from May 18 to July 8. A total of 16 teams from around the world will be on board to fight for supremacy on the volleyball court. Brazil will be accompanied by Poland, Finland, and Canada in
Pool B. The tournament will be opened with the preliminary round-robin, which will cover its length in four weeks.
Toronto, Canada will play hosts to the first week matches, while the teams will travel to Katowice, Poland in the second week of the tournament. Brazilian team will come home in third week when Sao Bernardo Compo will set up the field of play for Pool B
matches. The last phase of preliminaries will be covered in Tampere, Finland. The Final Round of the 2012 FIVB World League is set to take place in Sofia, Bulgaria from July 4 to 8. Brazil has high hopes to do well in the campaign as the team is enjoying its
top form.
