  1. depends on where you go - when I lived in Sao Paulo, they use the ungrounded plug with two flat parallel prongs is pretty much standard in most of North and Central America.

I did on occasion venture to areas where the two-wire plug is ungrounded and has two round prongs OR the plug with two flat parallel prongs and a grounding pin.

  2. Here you go:

It looks like they use both the US flat pin and the European style round pin plugs.

  3. rio de janeiro-110 V

    sao paulo- 220 V

all hotels now have both ,you can use all .They have adaptors available too. . If you are not going to a big city mostly 2 holes 110 v.

  4. all outlets have american flat and round tipped ones, but the round tipped ones are thiner than the euro ones.

So if you are comming from Europe, an american adpter is fine.

If you are comming from the US, you don't need adapters at all.

As for voltage, Rio and São Paulo are 110.

São Paulo's countri side is 220 as well as the Northeast, Brasilia and the Center West and the North.

  5. Of 110 and 220 V

    I am Brazilian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. what these guys said are all very accurate

    .

but double check with more than one locals if you can, just to be sure.

when going there to visiti didnt and ended up burning my very very expensive flat iron...twice :(

also, there are outlet adapters and voltage adapter, you may need to use both. be carful not to get electricuted (READ THE DIRECTION EACH TIME YOU USE IT,,, CAREFULLY) when using the voltage adapter, i got a nice ol scar from that.

    hope that helps :)

  7. In the major cities of Brasil nearly every electrical outlet is dual, for North American standards and European(minus the UK).   The major cities being, Rio, Salvador, Brasilia, Belo Horizante, Porte Alegre, Forteleza, Recife and even some remote tourist areas like Foz do Iguacu.  I am Brasilian-American so I frequent Brasil yearly.  Hope this helps
