Brazil is as diverse as any other country, it is very wealthy, it has abject poverty. it has beauty and the worst slums I have seen anywhere, the people are friendly enough but I never felt completely safe. It is a massive country and I only saw a tiny part of it but I have no desire to return

Well there are a lot of thieves and women who go around nake dn carnivals in there and it is like a mixed country there is a poor side and a rich side.

My experience - from several months living in Brasil - is that it is quite pleasant.  (pardon me while I get on my soapbox for a minute--if you expect good, you will find it; if you expect bad, you will find it; a lot depends on your attitude going in--I'll get off my soapbox now)

Seriously, I found the people friendly and helpful.  The sights are beautiful (Rio, Iguacu, even Sao Paulo).  The music is contagious.  The food is wonderful.  Futebol rocks.

That's not to say all is well, there certainly exist problems in Brasil, but overall - - - very nice.
