Brazil wins the big fight and clinches the top spot in FIVB Championship
The Federation International de Volleyball started the search for the best team by launching FIVB Men’s World Championship on 25th September, 2010. The wonderful volleyball campaign put the aspiring teams through a tough array of competitions.
The FIVB Men’s World Championship welcomed 24 teams from across the world to show their thirst for the title and hunger to rule the world. Amazing battles were staged in the succession of championship. The efficient teams climbed up the stairs of fame, whereas
the mavericks left broken hearted and heavy heads on account of shaky performances.
The defending Champion Brazil entered the championship with a determination to secure the title for another year. The Brazilian aces enjoyed a perfect rhythm and tone to launch their authority on world’s best teams. Success kissed their feet and luck accompanied
them at every point.
Brazil vs. Cuba
The Brazilian squad met Cuba in the final showdown on Sunday, 10th October, 2010. Palalottomattica sports hall in Rome, Italy was overwhelmed by 12,000 volleyball enthusiasts. Brazil was tipped to win the final combat as the young Cuban side was
no match for the experienced Brazilian team. Brazil easily managed to dismantle their power in three straight sets. Brazil settled for the final victory by posting 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, and 25-22) over Caribbean team from Cuba, scoring their third consecutive
victory in the FIVB Men’s World Championship.
Match Summary
Brazil opened the match on a good note. The powerful serves of Vissotto earned them early lead over Cuba. They dominated the opposite side from the very beginning of the game. The young guns of Cuban ‘force’ struggled with Fernando Hernandez who served with
full might. Leon and Simon of Cuba hit authoritative spikes but Brazil refused to accept their power. Rodrigo dismissed their attack attempts and scored points on counter attacks. Brazil pulled off success at 25-22 in the first set.
The second set totally belonged to Brazil, as they left no choice for Cuba other than getting away with Brazilian rule. They hit killing aces and deadly spikes to overpower Cuba. The defending champions restricted Cuban side to low score. Brazil captured
second set by achieving 25-14.
Cuban team seemed scattered in the court. They tried to put up with Brazil’s heavy strike but remained unsuccessful to gain any reputation. Brazil claimed the third set and announced their fantastic win over Cuba. Brazil made it again and captured the top
spot of FIVB Men’s World Championship 2010.
Post Match
The Brazilian squad celebrated their fabulous victory over Cuba. The blocker Rodrigo Santana expressed his views after the match. He said, “I am ecstatic to have won this third gold medal in a World Championship.  We played an exciting final without ever
allowing Cuba to gain momentum. This is a great result for me and all of Brazil, but now our next goal is the Olympics in London."
The captain boy of Brazil, Gilberto Godoy Filho had the similar say, “We played united as a team and as a family and that’s the reason for our victory. This World Championship means a lot to me since it is the last one, so the celebrations will stay with
me for a lifetime. We need to work hard for next year's World Cup and also for the Olympic Games, the highest event for any athlete."
The captain of Cuban side, Robertlandy Simon Aties regretted the failing effort his team and disclosed his thoughts after the match. He commented, "Today's match was our worst in the tournament. We also had a bad game against Serbia in the early rounds but
not like today.” He further added, “We couldn't do anything. We tried to serve harder and that didn't work. Brazil played great. The silver medal means a lot for us and in the future we can do better."
