Brazilian Grand Prix Preview - Part 1
The enthralling 2010 Formula One season finally takes its last twists and turns. The rally of the cars gets ready to unfold the 18th and the second last round of the season, this weekend at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The race is not only a very crucial one as it takes the season towards its last and final stages but also it is being anticipated badly due to its recent history.
The last five of the Formula One seasons have seen the world champion being decided on the Brazilian soil. Though this season had been so unpredictable and different from any other seen in the sport for decades, yet if this last race is going to be the determinant factor for next World Champion than the chances of the Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso are the highest.
Alonso currently stands at the top of the tally with his 231 points, a place that seemed impossible for the driver only a few months back. Surely, he has come along a long way brilliantly. Just a couple of weeks back he stood 47 points behind the chart topper of that time, the Red Bull driver Mark Webber. Now, the Spaniard has the crown with only two more races to go while the Red Bull man has been pushed down to second place being 11 points short of Alonso.
The battle of the title has stayed among the top five drivers of the season, the two Red Bull men, Weber and Sebastian Vettel, the two McLaren drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton and then came in the Ferrari driver, Alonso. He entered the tug with a very controversial victory at the German Grand Prix and then there was no stopping him.
From his initial fifth place in the tally he kept climbing up the ladder one after the other races and now he finally stands at the peak of the points’ tally. Still, as Alonso sees it, the next race would not be the correct time to ‘seal the deal’, rather he just wants to stay patient and drive calmly to bag as many points as he can. The two-time world champion, knows the art of hunting the title very well and believes that he has to wait patiently for the right time to make the right move. He is very cautious for the next race knowing the fact that even a single mistake now, no matter how minor, could cost losing the championship at this stage.
Well, this good lesson has been learned by the driver from the last race, as his position in the tally become strong only by a minor error made by Webber, which cost him not only the last race but also the top position of the Drivers’ Championship. It is even believed by many of the analysts that despite of the fact that he still has the second place in the points’ standings yet he has missed the chances of bagging the first title of his career.
However, the way the season has unwrapped and the way the championship probabilities have kept changing all through the season, nothing could be said for certain until the last round of the year, which would be held in Abu Dhabi.
Moreover, the last round in Korea saw one of the top five races, Jenson Button being shed off from the tug. Even though he is still reluctant to give up, somehow it is obvious that he is out of the limelight due to the difference of 42 points from the top, which is far from possible for the driver to cover.
To be continued...
