The Corinthians came forth with some intelligent plays but their tired forwards were unable to cope with the pace of the game. Once again it was up to the Corinthians SP to come up with a plan and make the expected substitution.
In the 69th minute forward Iarley (Corinthians SP) was brought off and in his place star player Souza (Corinthians SP) was introduced. This totally changed the speed of the game and it now looked as
a change in tactics was overdue for Atlético Mineiro.
The battle to control the midfield continued but the Atlético Mineiro forwards lacked the finishing abilities. The Atlético Mineiro manager came up with a plan to disguise and play long balls but again the forwards missed
their chances.
The 75th minute called for substitutions as forward Ricardo Bueno (Atlético Mineiro) was called off and Neto Berola (Atlético Mineiro) was given his position.
This change in tactic was a mark of brilliance as just 2 minutes later the confused Corinthians SP were unable perceive what plays and positions their opponents were playing and that got the Atlético Mineiro their desired
goal.
It was Diego Souza (Atlético Mineiro) who scored the winner with the help of Diego Souza (Atlético Mineiro) in the 78th minute.
After this goal the rest 15 minutes of the game ended in frenzy as (Corinthians SP) looked desperately to possess the ball and score on counter but the Atlético Mineiro defence and midfield proved to be up to the challenge.
