Brazilian Liga: Atlético Atlético Mineiro G 2 - 1 Corinthians SP Fulltime Analysis (Part 2)
This resulted in a 43rd minute goal near the end of the first half. Alessandro (Corinthians SP) came up with the assist as the ball got crossed to Paulinho (Corinthians SP) and he headed the ball impeccably
to draw first blood.
Soon after that the first half ended at Atlético Mineiro G 0 – 1 Corinthians SP.
The second yellow card of the game came as soon as the match was restarted after the break. This time Diego Souza (Atlético Mineiro) got slapped with booking as he made a reckless challenge.
In the 46th minute, Diego Macedo (Atlético Mineiro) was replaced by Obina (Atlético Mineiro). This was a positive change as Atlético Mineiro was soon enough dominating possession of the ball and produced
brilliant plays.
That however was just part of the story as shots started being fired at the Corinthians SP goal with confidence for the first time in the match.
This superb comeback came with rewards. At the hour mark, Serginho Mineiro (Atlético Mineiro) passed the ball from the flank as a flying Werley struck a firm header to level the game for Atlético at 1-1.
The rejuvenated team took position in the field as the game restarted from the middle and straight away Atlético was on fire again.
Soon after the goal Corinthians SP’s manger finally decided that a change of plan was needed, henceforth he called in Leandro Castán (Corinthians SP) to replace Roberto Carlos (Corinthians SP).
The change in defenders seemed to have plugged the hole that had caused the last goal as further shots and passes were well blocked by Corinthians SP. Now that the defence was stable once again, it was now time to form a
couple of offensive strategies.
The Corinthians came forth with some intelligent plays but their tired forwards were unable to cope with the pace of the game. Once again it was up to the Corinthians SP to come up with a plan and make the expected substitution.
In the 69th minute forward Iarley (Corinthians SP) was brought off and in his place star player Souza (Corinthians SP) was introduced. This totally changed the speed of the game and it now looked as
a change in tactics was overdue for Atlético Mineiro.
The battle to control the midfield continued but the Atlético Mineiro forwards lacked the finishing abilities. The Atlético Mineiro manager came up with a plan to disguise and play long balls but again the forwards missed
their chances.
The 75th minute called for substitutions as forward Ricardo Bueno (Atlético Mineiro) was called off and Neto Berola (Atlético Mineiro) was given his position.
This change in tactic was a mark of brilliance as just 2 minutes later the confused Corinthians SP were unable perceive what plays and positions their opponents were playing and that got the Atlético Mineiro their desired
goal.
It was Diego Souza (Atlético Mineiro) who scored the winner with the help of Diego Souza (Atlético Mineiro) in the 78th minute.
After this goal the rest 15 minutes of the game ended in frenzy as (Corinthians SP) looked desperately to possess the ball and score on counter but the Atlético Mineiro defence and midfield proved to be up to the challenge.
