Brazilian Men’s Superliga B slated for January 2012 – Volleyball news
The first edition of Men’s Volleyball Superliga B is scheduled to be launched in January 2012.
The news was revealed by the governing authority of volleyball in Brazil, the Brazilian Federation of Volleyball (CBV). The sole purpose to start the Men’s Superliga B is to provide the league with better competition in 2012. Furthermore, the new addition
will expand the geographical range of the sport in Brazil. The CBV is full of hope to get desired results out of this venture. The first edition of the Superliga B will be attended by eight teams. The best teams will rise up and earn qualification for Superliga
A in the 2012/13 season.
Superliga is a top level volleyball competition in Brazil, where teams from different states of the country contest their skills and vie for the national title. Both men’s and women’s aspiring teams take part in the national campaign, while the tournament
is organised by Brazil Federation of Volleyball. The number of participating teams varies each year. The winning team of the league gets the chance to represent Brazil at different South American Tournaments.
This is the first time that CBV has come up with the idea to launch Superliga B, which will serve as a qualification phase for the Superliga A. Following Brazilian clubs will join the 2012 Superliga B:
Funvic/Midiafone (Pindamonhangaba) Santo André Climed/Atibaia Morro da Fumaça (SC) Sport Clube do Recife (PE) UFC/Ceará (CE) APAV/Canoas (RS) Clube do Remo (PA)
Initially, the teams will be divided in two groups. Funvic/Midiafone, Morro da Fumaça, Sport Clube do Recife and UFC/Ceará will be placed in Group A, while Group B will consist of Santo André, Climed/Atibaia, APAV/Canoas and Clube do Remo.
According to the set competition formula by the Brazilian Volleyball Federation, each team will get the chance to host the rest of three teams in the group. This system will be different from Superliga A but it will be similar to FIVB Grand Prix tournament,
where the top two members of a group advance to the semi-finals. Superliga B will be carried out in the same fashion and teams with 3-0 or 3-1 decision will bag three points, whereas the losing side in such matches will be awarded no points. Nonetheless, in
the 3-2 affair both teams will split three points. Winner will get two points, while the loser will earn one point.
The Technical Director of CBV, Renato D´Avila, stated, “The creation of Superliga B makes the Brazilian Championship stronger. The competition for a place in Superliga A will be intense. With this format, we will have better balance and it will make the
championship even more significant. Next season, the intention is also to have a women’s competition.”
There is not much left in the launch of Superliga B. Hence, the participants have short period of time to prepare for the competition. Soon the volleyball action will start, which will put the participants to a real test of skills and temperament. Check
