Brazilian Sandro out for a month with knee injury, will miss beginning of EPL season with Tottenham Hotspur
Sandro, the 22-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defensive midfielder, has picked up a knee injury while on international duty with Brazil and could miss out the beginning of the upcoming English Premier League season.
Sandro complained about pain in his calves and knee after which he underwent a scan, which revealed he had injured his knee. Sandro was representing Brazil in the ongoing Copa America in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841, but has now been sidelined because of his injury.
The type of injury Sandro has sustained usually takes about a month to heal, which means there is no possibility that the Brazilian will be able to feature for the Spurs on their opening fixture of the Premier League against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 in early August.
The news of his injury comes as a big disappointment for Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mano-c23341 Menezes, who will miss his services for the remainder of the season. The Brazilian national team doctor said:
“There is swelling muscle in the calves and a rupture of the meniscus externally in the left knee.”
Sandro himself revealed he was disappointed with the injury that would be keeping him out for about a month. The Brazilian was looking forward to the new season and featuring for Brazil in the Copa http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/America-c38390, something he will now not be able to do.
Sandro said while speaking to reporters:
“It is a problem that I have had been feeling for some time.
It has been troubling me more recently because it has stopped me practising.
The examination found that I have to have surgery. Unfortunately for me the injury happened now, at an important moment of my career. But I will have the surgery and try to recover soon.”
Sandro joined the London side in 2010 from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Internacional-c39573 for a fee of £8 million on a long term deal, making his debut for the Spurs after the Copa Libertadores. Since then he has made 19 appearances in the league, scoring one goal.
