Brazilian Serie A – Corinthians vs Goias; Corinthians put 5-1 past Goias
The Brazilian Serie A was just beyond its half way point as second place Corinthians were looking to take on, the lowest placed team Goias. The match was expected to be fairly one sided as one of the teams were on top of their form, while the other was hoping that the season would end faster and put an end to their misery.
Prior to the match experts said that this was going to be a walk in the park for Corinthians as long as they did not do something that was drastically bizarre. The home team was expected to walk away from the match with the crucial three points that were needed to open up the title race.
The match got underway in a predictable manner with the home team looking to apply some pressure on the opposition. Their offense was made more effective, thanks to the support that the home crowd showed them throughout the game.
However in the seventh minute Junior struck for the away team, against the run of play. Right after that goal it seemed like the fans might just be in store for a shocker of a match.
The first half carried out with Corinthians attacking for the most part but failing to get the crucial breakthrough in front of goal. On the forty second minute mark, just before the half time whistle, the Corinthians struck and leveled the scores.
The one all score line was left on the score board as both the teams walked into the tunnel for the half time break. The Corinthians coach would have been urging his team to go all out, while the Goias coach would have been urging his team to hold on for the draw.The second half kicked of with a rejuvenated Corinthians side, they looked even sharper and much more fluid in their movements.
This paid off ten minutes into the restart as Pedro Iarley struck for the home team and finally gave them the much deserved lead in the game.
However that goal was just the beginning of things. Five minutes later it was Jorge Henrique who got his name on the score sheet for the Corinthians and the score was now three goals to one in favour of the home side.
In the seventy third minute, Goias gifted the home side a penalty, which the inform forward, Iarley converted with ease.
Corinthians seemed to be starting a riot on the field in the second half with the way they were scoring goals.
In the eighty fourth minute it was Boquita who found himself with space to shoot. The player did just that and scored the fifth goal on the night for the Corinthians. In doing so he successfully converted one of the biggest upsets of the league to one of the best comebacks that has ever been witnessed in the Brazilian Serie A.
The match ended leaving Corinthians one point behing the leaders Fluminense, while Goias were left at the bottom of the table.
