Brazilian Serie A news: Guarani beat Fluminense 2-1
The Brazilian Serie A had just made it past the midway point which meant that the matches were just starting to heat up as the rivalries between the teams started to grow. Fluminense, the current leaders in the Serie A were set to play Guarani who had just barely made it into the top ten.
Fluminense were the more confident of the two teams going into the match and in the pre match interviews, the Fluminense management guaranteed that they would be going home with the win.
The last two times that these teams met was way back in 2004. Both of those matches ended with a score of one all and hence were drawn.
Fluminense have almost always found themselves in the top flight of Brazilian football whereas Guarani were promoted again this season after being relegated a while ago.
Before the match got underway, the experts discussed the possible outcomes of the game. They predicted that the match would either end with a win for Fluminense or in a draw. However there was also an outside chance of Guarani taking the three points if they managed to catch Fluminense off gaurd, basking in their complacency.
The match got underway in a very predictable manner as Fluminense started to dominate possession early on and look the stronger of the two teams.
It was not long before this early pressure got to the home team and they let in the first goal of the game. Emerson was the man who found himself in front of the goal with space to shoot and the players shot connected beautifully ending up in the back of the net. This goal gave the away team the lead on the twelfth minute mark.
However the goal also acted as a wake up call to Guarani, who started to up their game to a whole new level and in doing so they stunned the away team.
The home team managed to level the score on the night in the thirty fifth minute when Baiano started the stringent comeback from the home team. The Fluminense team was caught napping as they just could not seem to respond to this surge of attacks from the home team.
The first half ended with the score line at one goal a piece.
The second half began in an even better manner than the first. This time around both teams were going toe to toe from the very first minute of the restart.
Both teams looked equally as capable of going home with the three points. However to everyone's surprise it was the home team, Guarani that snuck in their second goal first. Fabao was present to score the goal for the team that saw them take the shock lead on the night.
The match ended with the score line reading two goals to one in favour of the home team and blew the title race wide open, with the top two teams being separated by only one point.
