I was in Salvador de Bahia in May. I had a great shrimp dish I was hoping someone could tell me the name and possibly the recipe. It was shrimp and was in an orange sauce it had onions and green peppers. It was served with white rice. It had the consistency of a stew. Thanks.

  1. The dish name is Moqueca.

  2. Sounds like Moqueca de Camarao. Here's a link to some recipes, it's really easy to make at home.

    My personal touches:

*If you don't have enough shrimp or want some variety, any kind of fish or seafood is great. Just don't stir too much or the fish will fall apart.

    * Marinate the shrimp or fish in lime juice for 30 mins before using it. Drain the lime juice, throw it out, before adding the seafood to the stew.

*if you can't get Dende Oil it's OK to use olive oil.

*I also add sweet red peppers for colour and more texture.

*Don't overcook this once you've put in the coconut milk as you can make it 'curdle'. I only add the coconut milk once the fish is cooked and then only stir/cook to heat the whole thing. Serve at once and prepare yourself for happy dinners at your table!

  3. It is "Acarajé"

    North Brazilian food!!!
