from the semis moved ahead for the gold-medal match, while the losing sides met in the third position match. The bronze-medal match featured teams from Brazil and USA.
Brazil’s Rhooney Ferramenta/ Pedro Solberg crossed paths with the American duo of Matt Fuerbringer and Nick Lucena for the bronze. The former emerged as winners and secured the third place in straight sets.
Fuerbringer/ Lucena – USA
The 17th-seeded duo of Fuerbringer and Lucena played the first semi-final game against the German tandem of Brink and Reckermann. The Sunday morning encounter favoured the German side and helped them reserve a berth in the final match. Fuerbringer/
Lucena dropped the semi-final by receiving 1-2 (18-21, 23-21, 12-15). The semi-final was closely contested and both teams put up a great show on centre court. The German team claimed the opening set with a small margin of three points, while American quickly
responded and levelled the score in the second set. However, the German duo proved to be better in the third and decisive set and advanced to the final match. The loss of the semi-final left the Americans with a chance of only winning third place.
Ferramenta/ Pedro – Brazil
The second set semi-final brought Brazilian players Ferramenta and Pedro in competition with Dutch duo of Nummerdor and Schuil. The 15th-seeded pair from Netherlands enjoyed great form in the match and defeated the Brazilians in straight sets
of 21-17, 21-16. The match result was out in just 41 minutes as the victorious Dutch moved to the final fixture of the tournament, while Ferramenta and Pedro joined the American Fuerbringer/Lucena in the bronze-medal match.
