Brazilian legend Pele claims Barcelona’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 has a long way to go
Brazilian legend, Pele has gone ahead and raised questions over just how good http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 forward and Argentinean attack maestro Lionel Messi is. The former great has come forth and stated that Messi still has a lot of work on his hands, to live up to the
standards that were set by the legends of yesteryear.
Messi has already won two FIFA World Player of the Year/Ballon d’Or awards and is hailed to be the best footballer in the world by most. At the same time most people are also claiming that the twenty three year could go down to be one of the greatest players
to ever play the beautiful game of football.
Nonetheless, Pele seems to have his own mindset about the situation. The Brazilian is under the impression that in order for Messi to be held in high regard in his books, he is going to have to impress when taking to the field with the Argentinean national
team.
In a recent interview, Pele when talking about Messi and his feelings towards the player, is quoted to have said: “People like to compare but they seem to have forgotten [Johan] Cruyff, [http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-c25453] Platini and [Alfredo] Di Stefano, who were better than [Lionel]
Messi.”
Despite having said that, the player then went on to highlight the fact that Barcelona were easily the best team in the world at the moment – a team that Messi has gone on to impress with, time and time again.
When talking about the upcoming UEFA Champions League final and Barcelona, Pele is reported to have said: “Manchester United are a strong side and are faithful to the English style of football. But I have no doubt that as a team Barcelona are the best in
the world.”
It is surprising to hear these comments from Pele about Messi. This is because if anything, Messi has proven this season just what he is capable of. So far this term, the player has gone on to make fifty four appearances for the Catalan club and has scored
a whopping fifty two goals and has picked up an astonishing twenty four assists along the way.
Just looking at those stats gives us an idea of what the player is capable of, however, for Pele to make such a bold claim, there has to be more to what he is trying to say. Perhaps the legend means that in order for the Argentine to be placed with the former
greats, he has to help his national side win some trophies, just like Pele himself did.
Nonetheless, the future is still looking awfully bright for Messi and the player is sure to answer http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pele-c40189’s comments with his on-field performances in the coming weeks.
