Brazilian star Emanuel prepares for another Olympic victory in 2012 – Men’s Beach Volleyball
38-year old Brazilian beach volleyball star, Emanuel Rego, has the distinction of attending the Olympic Games since Atlanta 1996.
Once again, the sturdy athlete is up to take up the challenge at upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games. In the previous four editions of the Olympics that Emanuel attended, he captured one gold medal and also settled for one bronze medal victory. The 2004 Summer
Olympic in Athens, Greece saw the rise of the Emanuel and his partner Ricardo Santos as they pushed everyone aside and seized the title trophy. Furthermore, the duo competed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and got their hands on the bronze-ware.
The South American tandem is currently preparing for the next edition of Olympic Games in central London. It will mark the fifth appearance of Rego on the Olympic court. The Horse Guards Parade, near Downing Street and a stone’s throw from Buckingham Palace
will host the thrilling action of beach volleyball. The world’s best athletes will be on board to contest their skills in front of the international audience. The volleyball scrimmage will be fought without any dangerous weapons but open hands.
Emanuel Rego disclosed his thoughts about competing in London. He stated, “You talk about the British Army and I think we will be like warriors in London (He said with a hint of humour in his tone). The players of beach volleyball are fighting against the
sun, the sand, the wind and even against the opponents. It’s a real battle, where the teams who can adjust the best will win.”
Currently, Emanuel is teamed-up with Alison Cerutti and both players on the team are enjoying a top form. They recently finished the regular beach volleyball season and grabbed a lot of success. They bagged most of number gold medals on the 2011 SWATCH FIVB
World Tour and brought honour to Brazil. They performed exquisitely well and broke many records. They made their presence felt and put an end to the 40-matches winning streak of American Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser in May, 2011. It is more likely that
the four friendly rivals from Brazil and USA will wage further battles in the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
“Every time I think about the Olympic Games, I have the idea that I want to be there again. When I wake up to train or play in a tournament, I think this is one more step to being there. As I’ve done at the four Games so far, I try to motivate myself every
year and every hour that I train,” said Emanuel.
It clearly shows that emotions of the beach volleyball star are high for fighting at the Olympic Games in London. Let’s see how he fares in it.
