Leandro Damiao, the Brazilian striker, has revealed English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur made an official bid for him which was rejected.
According to the 22-year-old, he intended to remain with Internacional until 2014, after which he would consider a move away. He has previously been linked with the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid, with Tottenham Hotspur emerging as favourites to sign
him in the summer transfer window.
The London club were reportedly confident in their attempts to try and lure Damiao away from Internacional and made an official offer. However, the player rejected the offer, claiming he wished to stay with the Brazilian outfit at least until 2014.
Damiao revealed in an interview:
“I'm glad for the interest and for the enquiries, but the only official offer was made by Tottenham. If there are other offers, we'll talk, but for now I'm not worried.”
The Brazilian forward felt he had settled well at Internacional and expected to remain at the club as far as he could see. Damiao admitted he expected offers to come in, but was not too concerned by them especially if the club was not interested to entertain
any possible buyers.
He said:
“Inter[http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Internacional-c39573 until 2014 unless there is a good offer that is good for Internacional, not only for me.”
The forward said he was currently focused on improving for both club and country, having missed out because of an injury last season. As compared to his 51 appearances in 2011, Damiao has made just 27 appearances in 2012 and scored 19 goals so far.
He revealed he was looking forward to retaining full fitness and doing well for Internacional and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858, so he could be guaranteed more of a role in the future. Speaking of his latest performance against Argentina, Damiao believed he had done well.
The player continued:
“I need a sequence. I got injured and missed some games. I only returned recently, but I've been improving. I had a much better performance against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841.”
