You shouldn't be getting a dog just because of how well they protect the family. You should get one because you a) want that breed and b) because they fit with your family's lifestyle. :)

You are obviously not prepared for a dog like this and probably know very little about them. They are serious breeds that need serious owners. If not trained or raised right, they can be aggressive with dogs and people and that can be a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Im not talking about the run of the mill Pit Bull or Rottweiler, were talking about breeds that can do some real damage in a short amount of time if not trained or raised correctly.

and as I said yesterday a gun and an alarm system. Its not the dog's job to guard you least of all guard someone who clearly has no experince with type of dogs.

Dogs aren't burglary alarms. If you get a dog for protection, you raise the stakes for it to become a biter. You are then ENDANGERING your family and everyone around you, including friends and neighbors.

Dogs can't tell the difference between a burglar and a friend or family member. A stranger is a stranger. And when your dog bites someone (and seeing as how those are large breed dogs, its a 10x chance), the humane society will take your dog and destroy it for being a threat to the population of the city in which you reside.

If you want a guard system, get ADT. NOT something that barks and may injure or kill another human being.
