Brazil’s relay squad pockets Men’s 4*100m medley relay gold: Day seven – Pan American Games, Guadalajara
Brazilian relay team proved their mettle for the title of Men’s 4*100m medley relay on concluding day of the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico on Friday, October 21.
Similar to Olympic Games, the Pan American Games are organised every fourth year and it stands among the major international events.
The Brazilian squad, which followed the lead of USA’s relay team in the final round, elevated their efforts in the playoff to prove their eligibility for the title of relay event.
The gold winning squad included Guilherme Guido, Felipe Franca, Gabriel Mangabeira and world record holder, Cesar Cielo Filho. Being the starter of the race, Guido swam the back-stroke leg, Franca performed breast-stroke, Mangabeira completed the butterfly
swim and Cielo Filho ended the race with a stunning freestyle finish.
Guido experienced tough competition from USA’s Eugene Godsoe, who clocked a time of 54.80 seconds to overpower Guido’s 55.08 seconds effort. Nevertheless, the lead was covered by Franca, who demonstrated his splendid effort and completed his part in a time
of 1 minute and 54.73 seconds against USA’s 1 minute and 55.96 seconds effort.
Meanwhile, Mangabeira cruised his way towards the finishing wall in the double-lap butterfly event and smothered the efforts of his competitors by completing his part in a time of 2 minutes and 47.30 seconds. Relay team of USA remained 1.50 seconds behind
Brazilian team as the posted an effort of 2 minutes and 48.80 seconds.
Subsequently, Cielo jumped off the starting block and ended his sprint in a time of 47.28 seconds to post 3 minutes and 34.58 seconds for gold medal. He was trailed by USA’s Douglas Robison, who helped his team in claiming silver medal of the event as the
submitted an effort of 3 minutes and 37.17 seconds.
The third position of the medley relay was obtained by relay team of Argentina, which completed their swim in a time of 3 minutes and 44.51 seconds for bronze medal.
The session ended after exhausting efforts of all swimmers in the relay events while podium finishers collected their awards and accolades after the completion of session.
