  1. Because some people LIKE it that way...lol

  2. Hiya,

My dad has it burnt to a crisp everytime he has toast. Then he puts all the black bits back in the margarine. Eurrggghhh xxxx

  3. I have pondered this for years (obviously I have no life). I've decided its because when I cook crumpets in the toaster I need to do them 3 times to get them crispy - so if I just put them in on "burnt toast" setting, it's only once.

  4. LOL that's funny you would think with a toaster the highest setting would get a slight brown toastiness instead you guys are right it gets black I leave mine set on the very lowest setting and when we do toaster strudles we crank it up I'm sure this is something everyone has thought too many times and I would love to hear someone that has toaster that does not burn on the highest setting

  5. toaster too hot. bread burn

  6. It has to do with the relative simplicity of the device. Look inside the toaster.  The way the vast majority of toasters work is there is thin bi-metallic strip that curves more as it gets hotter.  This is physically attached to the darkness bar.  When you put your first piece of toast in it warms up until the curved metal contacts another piece of metal inside the toaster which triggers the toaster to shut off and pop up the toast.

But when you try to toast a second piece of toast, the strip is still hot and curved, so when you put the bread in, it pops up before it can cook.  So at this point you have to move the darkness bar to remove the curve from the strip.  Then the toaster gets even hotter than before, and theoretically you get your second and third piece of toast without burning it.

The technology is almost 100 years old in your $14 toaster.  You can spend $250 on a high tech toaster, but you get what you pay for.

  7. Those high setting are great for bagels and english muffins.  Both of which seem to take a long time to toast to a decent level of toastiness.

  8. Some people like it. I know - grosssssss!!!

  9. I put it on that setting to toast it quicker and then press the cancel button rather than wait for it to take the usual length of time it'd take to toast it to about the same browness but on a lower setting.

  10. cuz sum people just have a thing against toast...........
