Break Cue Question???

I just got a new Lucasi Cue and want to turn my old Palmer Custom Cue into my break cue. The cue already seems be set up for breaking but what are some other things I can do to turn this cue into a good breaking cue? Tip? Ferrule? It's a tad bit shorter than a standard cue and has a shorter taper than my Lucasi. The joint is composite and I think it's 5/16" x 14 black collar. Thanks alot.

  1. Yeah, just slap a hard tip on it and you're ready to go. If you don't want to go as drastic and get the phenolic tip/ferrule combo, you can also just get a phenolic tip and see how you like it. There are also a few other hard tips out there that you might like to try as well. The new thing is "G10" instead of phenolic. You might want to look into that too.

Also, some people don't like the feel of phenolic and just go with very hard leather tips. That's an excellent option if you value control and/or feel over power on your break.

    Good luck.

  2. The best thing you can do for an awesome hit is to put a phenolic tip on the shaft.  It will replace the ferrule as it is one whole piece.  I have one on my break cue, and I love it.  The only thing though is if you cue is already short, they will have to take the shaft down more to put the new tip on, because it replaces the ferrule.  If you have a solid break with it now, there is nothing said that you need to change anything.  Maybe find someone who has a similar break cue set up and try it out to see how you like it.  Every one has their own likes.  Good luck and keep rackn em up!

  3. I have broken with my lucasi everyday for over a year now and not had a any problems with it, but then I dont really like carrying a bunch of sticks with me.
