Question:

Break Legislation for Train Drivers?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I work in road transport. There is a complex set of regulations governing how long a driver may drive before taking a break, how long that break must be, how long he needs to have off between shifts and at weekends etc...

I am wondering, is there a similar set of regulations for train drivers? *Surely* there must be but, apart from the bog standard Working Time Directive which applies to nearly all workers, I cannot see anything specific to train drivers.

Any train drivers out there who can help???

Thanks!

  1. the rules and regulations governing train drivers are some of the toughest in the world.

i suggest for details you either contact Aslef the drivers union or ATOC for more specific information

  2. By your wording I am assuming you are in the U.K. But here in the States there is a federal hours of service act.

It allows a maximum of 12 hrs per shift with a minimum of 8 hours break between.

That's all, no maximum number of shifts per week or month.

In peak traffic time you can (an do) work 8 or 10 shifts per week endlessly.

Past time for some changes but anytime the federal gov't gets involved all they do is make things worse.
