I have a Razr with a 2 year contract. I have had the Razr with the contract for one year and I want to get a new phone with a new contract. So, how much will it cost to break my Razr contract?

  1. I believe the early termination fee for AT&T is $175.  If you are going to get a new contract with another carrier then that is all you would pay.  If you are staying with AT&T you could get a partial upgrade which would add 1 extra year to your contract (it would be 2 years from now) and you would get your next phone discounted.  But it wouldn't be as discounted as a 2 year contract.  If you do switch to a different carrier and you want to take the same number.  Switch the service and that company will call AT&T and cancel for you.

  2. Prorated early termination fee—starting May 25, 2008, AT&T will offer new customers even greater flexibility with a prorated early termination fee. This replaces the previous $175 flat fee that applied to cancellations that took place anytime during the life of your contract. The new prorated termination fee will start at $175, and will be lowered by $5 per month, every month, for the term of the agreement.
