When changing the rear brake pads on a 1998 Mustang GT when you take the old pads off there is a little metal bracket on each end of each pad... are you suppose to put those brackets back on each end of the brake pads on each side or is it ok if you leave them off because it dont seem like that big of a deal cause it's jusst a little metal clamp

  1. those are anti-rattle clips...if you leave them off, you may experience a knock noise from the rear brake either while driving or braking. not a safety concern but can be a real annoyance...

  2. they are shims or anti rattle clips and yes you need them or you will prematurely wear out your brakes

  3. In addition to anti squeal, these shims also help keep the pressure off of the pad for warpage and deterioration.

  4. only if you want your parking brake to work... just a clip holding them on not hard to knock off with screwdriver and a hammer
