Note: As common sense would suggest, if you haven't read the book and don't want spoilers, this post isn't the best place to be.
Firstly, can I mention, I am NEUTRAL (still on Team Switz) on the topic of whether Breaking Dawn was or was not a complete utter piece of trash. It was ok; it was surprising; some bits were strange but I'll live with it. But with stuff like people burning their copies (which thankfully has stopped as it was a bit strange considering all you did was burn your money), I decided to look deeper.
When I first read the reviews, I was expecting something that was a huge utter horror that was so bad it would burn your eyes out (ok, maybe I'm exaggerating), but it wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting (suppose that it because I read too many bad reports and braced myself for the worst).
So now, after being 1 chapter away from the end. I want to ask what specifically was so bad about it? I'm not using this as a chance to target all the haters and convert them, nor am I using this to judge people. I'm just interest so I can make an educated view on what was good and what was bad. And besides, you get 10 points if you EXPLAIN your reason well. That's not too bad, right?
These are the main things I tend to hear about it:
1. Jake is such a pedophile in this book - Erhm, ok, I suppose it is a little strange considering he imprints on Bella's child (yes, it is different from Quil and Claire) but by the time Renesmee is 7 or something she is physically 21 and mentally centuries older. And besides, imprinting means they'll do anything to keep the person happy, including being a brother to them. That doesn't quite count as pedophilia does it? And the Bella issue there, there relationship didn't go too deep. And besides, the whole idea is completely weird so adding a bit more weirdness doesn't necessarily count as bad.
2. Renesmee is such a lame name - True, I was on the brink of laughing fits when I heard the nickname Nessie (Hahaha, Loch Ness Monster). But the idea is pretty creative, I mean, mixing the name of two parents. That's pretty creative. Besides, it was unique, it was meant to be unique, so it was ok, considering it wasn't over-the-top weird. And besides, at least she didn't call her Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii (as the person who I am sure is very happy they were allowed to change their name had).
3. The ending was too happy - That's a bad thing? Really? Would you have preferred everyone died painful and horrific deaths and Breaking Dawn was a book which made tons of people cry worse than New Moon? I had a friend who was seriously squeamish and was reading the series. She was happy it wasn't sad. As for no fighting. I admit, that was pretty lame, but violence isn't meant to be something we look forward to. And besides there was a little bit of violence when Jane and Alec began attacking.
4. It was too scary (some scenes were too visual) - I suppose that is completely up to your taste (well to be honest, the whole thing is).
I'll stop there. I'm sure there are plenty more reasons, but yeah, feel free to tell me your side on any of the points already given or any new ones you can think of. But explain them. I have a feeling a few people have already asked the question, but I ask it now as I am sure more of the fandom or ex-fandom have read it (and possible changed their views).
Oh and for all of you saying there was nothing wrong with it. That's peachy, this post is about what they didn't like about it, so as much as I appreciate the view, don't post "I liked it" unless you are going to explain.
Also, please don't turn this into a massive argument.
Thank you for bearing with this huge post that I didn't know I was capable of posting.
