Breaking EPL News: Hargreaves scheduled to miss five more weeks of action for Manchester United
After just lasting six minutes in his season debut with Manchester United at their weekend encounter against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Owen Hargreaves has been declared unfit for five more weeks due to a hamstring injury that he suffered
during the match. Owen Hargreaves has been a major casualty for Manchester United over the past two years, well as far as injuries are concerned as the player.
The Englishman has been suffering from a knee injury which was treated by two operations and since then; Hargreaves has been undergoing a strict rehab regime. However, Sir Alex took a gamble on his fitness as his side lined up against
Wolves, a risk that spectacularly backfired in the end. Speaking to the press on his team’s fitness concerns before their Wednesday’s encounter against Manchester City, Ferguson said, "We were at the stage where we knew Owen's knee was okay, his training performances
for eight or nine days previously had been terrific. He had done really well, which is why we took the chance. But maybe the tension in the build-up for the lad was too much and he suffered because of it."
Manchester United are scheduled to face Manchester City in their first Manchester derby of the 2010-2011 club football season, it is definitely going to be a hotly contested match. However, Manchester United are in a severe injury crisis
at the moment as they will be without the likes of Owen Hargreaves, Ryan Giggs, Luis Nani and Wayne Rooney for the encounter. Ferguson added to his comments as he said, "Ryan is out, Nani is doubtful. At this stage it doesn't look as if he will make it. It
is not a great position for us to be in. We are counting heads at the moment."
Manchester United’s problems are compounded by the fact that their squad has been largely affected by an infectious virus which has taken its toll on Vidic, Berbatov, Scholes and Patrice Evra. It is quite possible that these above mentioned
stars might miss the Manchester derby as Ferguson may yet again be forced to rely on untested and inexperienced members of his squad. Ferguson said, "There is nothing more satisfying than winning a derby game," he said. "It doesn't matter what year it is or
when it is."
Speaking on Manchester City’s financial situation, Sir Alex remarked, "If clubs have money and want to spend it, they will. Chelsea did the same. So did Sunderland back in the 1950s. It is not an unusual thing. It is a fact of life. The
only difference is that City is an untapped well at the moment. But it is difficult to say whether it is inevitable they are going to win the league at some point. Obviously, in many people's eyes, having the money is a lot better than not having it. But it
is still a difficult league to win. City recognize that themselves."
