Breaking EPL News: Liverpool and Barcelona officially announce the transfer of Javier Mascherano
Liverpool board has just officially revealed that they have a mutual understanding with Barcelona on the transfer deal of Javier Mascherano.
While talking to the media the officials from the club were the first ones to inform that Mascherano was leaving Anfield for Camp Nou.
Media reports have revealed that the transfer fee for the Argentinean captain are estimated to be around 21 million Euros but there are additional sums of money on the deal and they are no less than 3 million Euros.
The world class defensive midfielder had been the centre of attention in transfer rumours even before the end of last season as Mascherano himself had announced, he wanted to make a move out of the Merseyside.
His first approach was towards his former manager at Liverpool Rafael Benitez, who after his sacking was managing at San Siro for Inter Milan. There was a lot of interest shown by the men in charge of Nerrazzuri but the negotiations eventually fell apart.
Even though Mascherano impressed the world from his starry performance in the FIFA 2010 World Cup the Italian club was not reasoning the amount of 25 million pounds set by Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson.
After that there were a couple of other interesting moves on him by other clubs but the most surprising one was from Barcelona, who were in dire need of a midfielder since Yaya Toure’s departure.
They recently announced an official bid for the player who had refused to play in the EPL match against Manchester City as Liverpool were thrashed 3-0.
Hodgson had relayed it to the 26 year old player that if he was not given his desired amount, for which he had given the Catalans a deadline of Sunday to come up with a final offer before the transfer window closes on 31st August, he would be staying at Anfield.
It was expected that the deal was going to be signed and a transfer to either Barcelona or another club would take place as the Liverpool board had declared that the season opener for the Scouse against Arsenal was the last game of the player for the club.
Officials from the Reds have now announced the departure of the player. They have stated, “Liverpool Football Club have agreed terms for the transfer of Javier Mascherano to FC Barcelona. The Spanish club have now been given permission to speak to the Argentina midfielder”.
Barcelona officials have also confirmed the signing of Mascherano, “FC Barcelona and Liverpool CF have reached an agreement for the transfer of Javier Mascherano for the next four seasons”.
They added that the Mascherano still had to clear his medical exam, “The deal depends on the utility star passing a medical at Barça and the signing of his contract. Mascherano will arrive in Barcelona on this weekend”.
