Breaking EPL News: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer parts ways with Manchester United after 14 year long tie
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his post of Manchester United’s youth team and the reserves manager because the Norwegian national has been installed as first team manager at his country’s domestic league club Molde. In doing so, Ole Gunnar
has parted ways with Manchester United after 14 long years of service to the club at first as a footballer and then as a reserve team manager.
Manchester United’s fans consider Solskjaer as their legend due to his numerous contributions to the club. But his most important achievement is when he scored in the 1999 UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich in the last minute
of the match to give his side the win.
Ole Gunnar netted 126 goals in total 366 matches for the English giants following his 1.5 million pound move from Molde to United in the summer of 1996. With this feat he has gone down as one of the best buys of the Ferguson era at Old
Trafford. In 2007, the former Norwegian international footballer called it quits on his footballing career due to a recurring knee injury.
Sir Alex Ferguson commented on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure from the club saying, "Ole has had a good period with our reserve team, which has given him a foundation to start somewhere else. He feels it is time he went back to Norway,
which also helps his family situation. He has been a fantastic servant to us and I am sure he will do well. He has worked with some really good young players in our reserve team and has contributed to their development. Once he gets experience of managing
a club in its own right who knows where it will take him?”
Ferguson also praised Molde as a football club by stating, "Molde is a very progressive club in Norwegian football, so this is a good start for him." Solskjaer will take up his new post at Molde in January to prep the team for their upcoming
season which stars from March of 2011 in Norway. Ferguson also admitted that Ole Gunnar’s move to Norway as a manager might have certain perks for Manchester United as well. He said, "We have a good contact base in Norway now. It is difficult to say what Ole
will do long-term but he has made a conscious decision regarding his family, which worked out well with the fact that Molde were looking for a coach."
There has been speculation that Gary Neville might be appointed as the club’s reserve team manager. However, Ferguson was quick to dismiss such reports as he concluded by stating, "I have no idea who takes over the reserves. We will just
leave it at the moment."
