Breaking EPL News: Wenger elaborates on Arsenal’s squad injuries
Arsene Wenger has a host of injuries to deal with before his team’s match against Tottenham on Saturday but the Frenchman has some good news as well ahead of the North London derby. Jack Wilshere is most likely to be back in action for
the Gunners after the Englishman missed England’s mid-week international friendly loss to France by two goals to one. Wilshere wrote on his twitter account on Thursday that he was feeling better on Thursday night.
On the other hand, Arsenal will also be happy with the fact that their star striker, Robin Van Persie came through unscathed in his little cameo appearance for Holland in their 1-0 win over Turkey on Wednesday as well. However, Andrei
Arshavin and Tomas Rosicky are both doubts for the match against Spurs as their fitness has yet to be judged upon.
Wenger said in his pre-match press conference for Arsenal, "We have to assess Arshavin, who has still to come back [from Russia]. Rosicky is coming in later too. He had a tight hamstring, but should be okay. Van Persie had 45 minutes,
which was agreed. He needed that. We had someone at the game and he looked quite sharp." There are some certain absentees for Arsenal as Vermaellen, Diaby and Almunia still remain on the sidelines for the Gunners due to their respective fitness issues. Nonetheless,
Almunia might be back in action for the Gunners next week as Wenger said, "He is back in full training. Almunia needs a few more days because he has been out for a long time, but he should be available for next week."
Bacary Sagna started the war of words before the North London derby as the focus has been on how William Gallas will be treated during the match by the Arsenal fans as he made his move from Arsenal to Tottenham in the summer of 2010. Sagna
said, "On the pitch there is a war, but off the pitch we are all friend. I am not angry at him because he signed for our rivals. He was always very professional and he always gave everything. Football is football, I am not furious against him. William needed
to leave to play football and that is what he loves."
The French right back also commented on Gallas’s behavioural problems at Arsenal, due to which he was stripped of club captaincy, Sagna stated, “That was his hunger because he wanted to win so much. Maybe he expressed it in a bad way but
it was not bad at all because he wanted us to win. During the time he played for Arsenal he always did well."
