Breaking Football News: Capello warns against drinking habits in English football
24 years after Sir Alex Ferguson entered English football through his appointment as the manager of Manchester United, when the Scotsman crusaded against the drinking habits of English footballers at the Manchester club; Capello has come
out and outlined the cons of extensive drinking which are prevalent in English football.
Capello who is the currently the English national team manager has seen several of his superstar players embarrass themselves in public due to their alcohol addiction. Manchester City players such as Barry and Hart were the latest ones
to get spotted in the limelight due to their escapades at a student party in Scotland. Fabio who was once a player himself with A.C Milan does have some spot sport for the modern footballers whose personal lives have been opened up for public pleasure by the
media in modern times.
Speaking on the drinking culture and its harmful effects, Capello said, "If a player drinks a lot his career will be shorter. This is important. Players have to understand the effect drink has on the body. I don't think it is possible
to be a top athlete and drink heavily after matches."
Fabio went onto elaborate on his experiences in Spain and Italy’s footballing leagues and the cultures in those countries, he said, "They used to talk a lot about the 'third-half'. First half, second-half, third-half. It was really important.
It was the culture of the rugby players. The two teams stayed together one hour. Now I have learned that some players drink here. But this is the English culture."
Capello has also banned alcohol from English national team’s hotel, as the players are not allowed to drink before matches for the national team. Fabio maintained this routine during the FIFA 2010 World Cup as well, a tournament which
England exited from stage at the Round of 16.
Capello concluded his interview with the press by saying, "You can know everything about what happens in someone's private life because of the mobile phone. It can record all the time. It can take pictures. You can find everything on Facebook
or Twitter. It is the worst thing. It is why people can speak about certain people drinking or being out. Players now have to be so careful with their private life because people can see everything”.
England play their next match against France, an encounter in which Capello is set to give debuts to several young stars which have been included in the English national team squad due to injuries to Bobby Zamora, Darren Bent, Wayne Rooney
and Jermain Defoe.
